Summer Placement #1: Turn Key

Turn Key is an integrated PR, Digital and Marketing agency and was my first work experience for the summer. I arranged the work experience via a friend whom I met during my work experience at Epiphany last year (Contacts!).

Although I think I will end up working in house and probably in the Public Sector, I am eager to build up a portfolio of consumer and agency work experience to develop my skills and learn from a range of different people. After an email exchange and interview, I arranged to come in for 3 weeks (which turned into almost 4 as I went to Malaysia in the middle!) and join the PR Team.

The team itself is made up of 7 girls (and a lovely 2 day a week intern), with a breadth of knowledge and experience between them and exciting clients including Cloud Nine, Jacuzzi, DestinationSkin, Victoria Quarter and Great Lengths. Most of the clients were considered Beauty and Lifestyle and I was working on a range of tasks from typical seeding lists and research, to writing blog posts and press releases, creating social media plans and updating Pinterest accounts.

During my placement, I got to visit Victoria Quarter to take images for a Wedding Week social campaign as well as visiting Great Lengths to assist on a 'How to' video shoot.

I was able to use a couple of different databases including Vocus and The Handbook for sourcing celebrity agents and thanks to some great editing and feedback, I was able to work on improving my writing and content creation. I also got to take part in brainstorming sessions that were developed into pitches to successfully win new clients!

I really enjoyed my time at Turn Key, it was such a friendly office and it was great to work on some interesting, fun clients. I also appreciated the opportunity to write blog posts that went on to be published as well as the effort the team put in to putting together to-do lists, assigning me tasks, editing my work and praising me for my input and work. They even got me these gorgeous flowers and lovely card below that I am a little bit obsessed with!

My next work placement is at Brilliant Social Media, an agency that deals solely with social media. I’m particularly excited to see how they effectively measure their work when they are dealing exclusively with social media and as a much smaller team, I’m looking forward to see how they all work together to deliver results for their clients.

Keep an eye out for updates on placement #2 and more intern advice in my #internseries!
